CHICAGO (AP) - Bob Bradley has been fired as head coach of the U.S. men's national team after five years.

The announcement came Thursday from U.S. Soccer President Sunil Gulati.

The U.S. is coming off a poor showing in the Gold Cup, including a stunning 2-1 loss to Panama and a 4-2 loss in the championship game against Mexico.

Bradley was chosen as coach in January 2007 and went 43-25-12 overall. He helped the lead the team to the Round of 16 of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

i emailed sunil gulati today with a spanish manager i believe deserves at least a call

i'm sure he could give a shit less what i think but we need new, non-American, blood that can not only revitalize the national team but the entire program. our u20 didn't make WC, our u17 got KO'd about 25-0 by German in the quarters, and our national team have been assraped by Mexico in 2 straight gold cups on home soil. i'm sick of it

gulati has a man crush on Klinsmann so i'm sure he's next in line but he'll be a disaster

Klinsmann Named Coach of U.S. Soccer Team
By JERÉ LONGMAN
Published: July 29, 2011

After courting him twice without success, the United States Soccer Federation on Friday hired Jürgen Klinsmann to coach the men’s national team.

Klinsmann, a former German star who coached Germany to third place at the 2006 World Cup, becomes the first foreign-born coach of the American team since Bora Milutinovic, a Serb, guided the Americans to the second round of the 1994 World Cup.

Unlike Steve Sampson, Bruce Arena and Bob Bradley, his immediate predecessors, Klinsmann was a top player at the highest levels of international soccer. He scored 47 goals in 108 appearances with the German national team and played a key role in West Germany’s victory in the 1990 World Cup.

He was hired a day after Bradley was fired and will coach his first match with the United States in a friendly against Mexico on Aug. 10 in Philadelphia.

Totally agree roll. The US national team puts too much focus on physicality and athleticism, rather than pure passing ability and creativity. We have a similar probelm with the England team, and I think its a culture issue.

The football philosophy of the Dutch and Spanish is the way forward, but like you say, it needs to start at a young age for the national team to reap the rewards.

Classic case in point for me was Paul Scholes with the England national side...A player smart nations would have built a team around. Instead Erikkson played him on the left wing to accomodate more physical players in the middle :ohno:

Frustrating to support either nation!
